Making a charitable donation helps you give back to your community and may help your wallet at tax time, too.
New deduction for non-itemizers
If you usually take the standard deduction and don’t itemize, we’ve got some good news. Beginning in 2026, you’ll be able to deduct charitable donations up to:
- $1,000 for single filers
- $2,000 for married couples filing jointly
This deduction is calculated after your AGI (so not an above-the-line deduction), but before your taxable income, meaning you can claim it without itemizing.
